The IIAPP website offers:

  • a searchable database of investment treaty cases up to May 2010;
  • an indication of cases that relate to various policy areas;
  • information on the appointment records of individual arbitrators; and
  • general information on international investment arbitration.

Its purposes are to:

  • provide open access to research on investment arbitration;
  • identify options for governments in responding to investor lawsuits;
  • shed light on the role of investment arbitrators in policy-making; and
  • highlight the case for more openness, independence, and public accountability in the system.

The searchable database covers all known investment treaty cases, as of May 2010, based on publicly-available awards, decisions, and (for NAFTA cases) party submissions. Data was collected and classified using these coding guidelines. The website will be updated periodically. Please read this disclaimer and terms of use before exploring the website.

IIAPP NEWS

Welcome to iiapp.org

This website, iiapp.org, was launched in September 2011. It aims to showcase research projects on international investment arbitration in a way that is accessible, independent, and relevant.

In 2015, Osgoode Hall law professor Gus Van Harten released his book on the Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) and on investment treaty arbitration, as an IIAPP self-publication. The book, Sold Down the Yangtze: Canada's Lopsided Investment Deal with China, has since been published by Lorimer and is available in paperback and as an e-book.
